Daily Debate results: Are Jim Miller, Clay Guida future UFC Hall of Famers?

There’s no one factor in making a Hall of Famer. There are no-brainer picks, of course. If you don’t think Royce Gracie belongs in a Hall of Fame, you probably shouldn’t watch MMA. Then there are consensus picks, the Randy Coutures and Urijah Fabers and whatnot whose contributions to the growth of the sport combined with their accomplishments in the cage made a real impact. Then there are some out-of-the-box choices. Like Jim Miller and Clay Guida , who square off in the co-main event of UFC on ESPN 5 on Saturday. Neither has held a UFC title. But they’ve been had tremendous staying power on a big-league level. They’ve provided the fans thrilling fights, win or lose. They’re still winning fights. Is that enough to get them into the UFC Hall of Fame when they’re done? We asked you, dear MMA Junkie Radio listeners, whether you believe they should make the cut. A plurality say yes, and, combined, a majority of you believe at least one belong. The results ( via Twitter ): Today...

Herbert Burns wants to be UFC's next big star, starting with impressive finish at DWCS 23

Another Burns is looking to join the UFC roster. Younger brother of UFC welterweight Gilbert Burns, Herbert Burns will get an opportunity to join his sibling on the roster when he takes on Darrick Minner at Dana White’s Contender Series 23 on Aug. 6. With all six of his career finishes coming by the way of submission, Burns (8-2) knows what the Contender Series can mean for his career. He’s seen it be a proven successful launching pad for the likes of Sean O’Malley and Greg Hardy, both of whom had emphatic finishes, and he, too, looks to deliver on Tuesday night. But he wants his fighting to do the talking. “My mindset is always to get a finish,” Burns said. “I never plan on going to decision. I know that Dana White wants a new star. ‘Contenders’ is a different show. In the UFC or on ‘The Ultimate Fighter,’ you can win by playing it safe. In the ‘Contenders’ show, everyone is talented enough to be in the UFC. “Dana is looking for a new star. Guys like Sean O’Malley and Greg Hardy...

Ed Ruth angling for rematch against Neiman Gracie, bouts vs. Melvin Manhoef, 'MVP'

Less than one month after his victory over Kiichi Kunimoto at Bellator 224, Ed Ruth is raring and ready to get back in the cage. In a Wednesday appearance on MMA Junkie Radio, Ruth (7-1 MMA, 7-1 BMMA) threw out a couple of names that tickle his fancy when he thinks about his next bout. “There’s Melvin Manhoef,” Ruth said. “There’s MVP (Michael Page). There’s Rory (MacDonald) – the guy who holds the belt, (but) he has (Douglas) Lima. I’ll even take a rematch. I’m not scared to face somebody that I’ve lost to before. Just to show I’ve overcome some boundaries (and) limitations. Obviously I love going against people I’ve fought before, but honestly, anybody they want to throw my way. I keep telling them I’m ready for anybody.”               Related Stories Clay Guida thinks he has ground advantage over Jim Miller at UFC on ESPN 5 Watch MMA Junkie Radio here at 8 p.m. ET with Randy Couture Daily Debate results: How would a Robbie Lawler upset sh...
